At paintbox, creativity is not just encouraged, it is cultivated. Our teaching is rooted in professional studio practice, built on the belief that real artistic growth comes from intention, skill development, and the discipline of making art with integrity.

We guide children, teens, and adults through structured learning in drawing, painting, mixed-media, and music; focusing not on rushed or diluted creativity, but on skill, observation, method, and expressive depth.

As both a practising artist and a mother, I believe that artistic learning should be nurturing, rigorous, and deeply human. Art has the power to enrich lives, build confidence, and impact communities, and when taught with integrity, it can inspire, elevate and transform.

In Term 3, we will journey into the world of the Impressionists, exploring the artists who transformed the way we see and paint the world. Through weekly artist studies, students will discover how painters such as Monet, Renoir, Degas, Morisot, Pissarro, Sisley, Cassatt, and Streeton captured light, atmosphere, colour, and the beauty of everyday life.

Working across acrylic paint, watercolour, gouache, oil pastels, and sketchbook studies, students will explore a variety of Impressionist techniques including broken colour, expressive brushwork, colour mixing, atmospheric perspective, layering, and the observation of light and weather. Throughout the term, students will create artworks inspired by water gardens, flowers, landscapes, changing skies, seasonal scenes, movement, and the unique colours and light of the Australian environment.

Along the way, students will develop their understanding of composition, colour harmony, observational drawing, and visual storytelling while gaining an appreciation for one of the most influential movements in art history. The term culminates in a major artwork, allowing students to draw upon the skills, techniques, and artistic inspiration explored throughout the program to create a finished Impressionist-inspired painting of their own.

Inclusive of all materials and tools (watercolour paper, watercolour paints, acrylic paints, canvases, easels, paintbrushes, aprons, graphite pencils, colouring pencils, etc.)

Little Atelier is a boutique artist-led studio program for children aged 3–5 years, thoughtfully designed to cultivate creativity, imagination, and a lifelong appreciation for beauty, making, and artistic expression. Inspired by the belief that young children learn best through meaningful engagement with materials, nature, and the creative process, each session offers a gentle introduction to the world of art within a carefully curated studio environment.

Working with beautifully curated materials such as beeswax crayons, watercolour paints, wax clay, fibre, charcoal, graphite, mixed media, and treasures gathered from the natural world, children are invited to explore colour, texture, form, and pattern through a series of hands-on artistic experiences. Projects draw inspiration from the changing seasons, nature, storytelling, observation, and the enduring traditions of art and craftsmanship.

Far more than an art class, Little Atelier encourages children to slow down, look closely, ask questions, and engage deeply with the creative process. Through drawing, painting, modelling, construction, and material exploration, young artists develop fine motor skills, creative confidence, visual awareness, problem-solving abilities, and a growing capacity for independent thought and expression.

With intentionally small class sizes (only 10 per session), thoughtfully chosen materials, and a strong emphasis on process, discovery, and artistic engagement, Little Atelier offers a rich and meaningful foundation for creativity within an authentic studio setting where wonder, curiosity, and imagination are welcomed every week.

Meet the Musicians Behind Our Beginner Guitar & Ukulele Programs

We are a self-taught singer–musician duo with over 15 years of collective experience. We come from diverse cultural backgrounds and share a deep love for making music that feels honest, soulful, and meaningful.

Our journey began in living-room rehearsals and intimate community gigs, and has taken us all the way to performing overseas. Along the way, we’ve not only refined our musicianship, but learned how to read an audience, build confidence, and make music that truly connects.

As self-taught musicians, we know what it means to start from scratch — the frustrations, the breakthroughs, and the joy of finally finding your rhythm. Our teaching style is grounded in real-world experience: practical, encouraging, and centred on creating genuine musical expression, not just playing notes.

Here, beginners become musicians through curiosity, steady practice, and the simple pleasure of making music together.

STUDIO NOCTURNE: ART AFTER DARK

Ongoing

For adults 18+

6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

$35 (inc GST) per 120-minute session

Includes the use of materials and tools

Studio Nocturne is an intimate evening studio program led by practicing artist, Katherine Tawse as well as other associate artists, and held within a working art studio. Designed for adults seeking depth, quiet focus, and meaningful creative time, this program offers a rare opportunity to work within an authentic professional studio environment rather than a classroom setting. Sessions take place after hours, when the studio slows and becomes a space for intentional, reflective making.

The experience is artist-led rather than instructional. Participants work alongside the rhythms of active studio practice, guided through gentle prompts, demonstrations, and individual support while maintaining autonomy over their own work. The focus is on process, observation, and personal expression, allowing ideas to unfold organically without pressure to produce a finished outcome. Curated music, an unhurried studio rhythm, and a calm, intentional atmosphere create an immersive experience that feels closer to a private atelier than a traditional class.

Participants may explore drawing, painting, and mixed media, with materials chosen to suit the tone and focus of each session. Studio Nocturne welcomes both beginners seeking a non-intimidating entry into art-making and experienced creatives looking to reconnect with their practice in a grounded, professional studio setting.

To support continuity and deeper engagement, Studio Nocturne follows a simple loyalty model:

  • Attend four sessions and receive the fifth session complimentary.

  • Attend four more sessions and receive the 10th session for free plus  a curated mystery art box.

Studio Nocturne is for those who value atmosphere, intention, and sustained creative presence where art-making becomes both a disciplined practice and a restorative experience within a working artist’s studio.

ENCLAVE: YOUR CREATIVE SANCTUM

Ongoing

For adults 18+

10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

$35 (inc GST) per 120-minute session

Includes the use of materials and tools

Enclave is a curated open-studio offering for artists and creatives seeking a quiet refuge and a place to return to their practice. Held within a working artist’s studio, Enclave offers dedicated studio time without instruction or expectation; just space, materials, and the freedom to follow what is calling you.

Saturday mornings unfold gently. Participants work independently or alongside others, immersed in their own projects, whether returning to a long-held idea, beginning something new, or simply enjoying the stillness of making. The studio becomes a shared rhythm rather than a class, where creative momentum builds naturally over time.

Local artist, Katherine Tawse, as well as other associate artists, is present as a steward of the space, offering quiet guidance and support when needed, while allowing each artist’s process to remain their own. Enclave is intentionally small, fostering trust, familiarity, and a sense of belonging rooted in respect and shared commitment to practice.

Designed for those who value autonomy within structure, Enclave supports sustained creative inquiry rather than short-term outcomes. It is a place to work slowly, thoughtfully, and consistently within a dedicated, well-resourced studio environment.

To support continuity and deeper engagement, Studio Nocturne follows a simple loyalty model:

  • Attend four sessions and receive the fifth session complimentary.

  • Attend four more sessions and receive the 10th session for free plus  a curated mystery art box.

Enclave is not a class.

It is a place to step inside, create freely, and return—week after week—to your creative sanctum.
