During the early access period, enrolment in BOTANICA is reserved exclusively for current Core Art Program students. Enrolments received from new students during this period will be automatically cancelled and refunded.
Tuesdays - 13 October to 15 December

$300 (inc GST) total for 10 x 60-minute sessions
Wednesdays - 14 October to 16 December
For Homeschoolers, ages 6yrs to high-school
10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
$350 (inc GST) total for 10 x 90-minute sessions
Fridays - 16 October to 18 December
For children ages 9yrs to high-school

BOTANICA is a 10-week exploration of the natural world through art.
Across the term, young artists will look closely at flowers, foliage, native flora, seed pods and other botanical forms, exploring how artists observe, interpret and transform nature through drawing, painting and mixed media.
Working across a range of materials and techniques, students will develop skills in observation, line, colour, composition, texture and mark-making while creating a series of resolved artworks. Projects will move between detailed botanical studies and more expressive, contemporary interpretations, encouraging students to look beyond simply reproducing what they see.
The term culminates in an original botanical work, giving each artist the opportunity to bring together the techniques they have explored and develop their own creative response to the natural world.
THE PLAN
THE BOTANICAL STUDY
We begin by looking closely. Using watercolour and ink, artists will explore botanical forms through observational drawing, line, transparent colour and layering, creating a detailed study inspired by real specimens.
IN FULL BLOOM
An exploration of flowers through colour and shape. Working with opaque paint, artists will build a bold floral composition while learning colour mixing, brushwork, layering and how to simplify natural forms into confident shapes.
NATIVE
Inspired by Australian native flora, this piece moves into soft pastel. Artists will explore rich colour, texture and expressive mark-making, responding to the distinctive forms of native flowers, foliage and seed pods.
BEYOND THE FLOWER
Botanical forms become the starting point rather than the finished answer. Through collage and mixed media, artists will crop, enlarge, repeat, layer and abstract elements from the natural world to create a contemporary botanical work.
THE ARTIST'S GARDEN
The term culminates in an original work. Artists will choose their own botanical subject and draw on the materials, techniques and ideas explored throughout BOTANICA to develop a piece that is distinctly their own.
Please note: BOTANICA is designed to respond to the way each group works. Projects, materials and timing may shift throughout the term depending on the creative pace and development of our artists.
